Asparagus Fern
The Asparagus Plumosus is a queen of a plant. It enjoys shade, is a total diva, and is a bit of a climber. Plus, they insist you call them an Asparagus Fern even though they're secretly part of the lily family. Like any true diva, they can't stand being touched, so enjoy their beauty with your eyes not your hands. In fact, it hates being touched so much itās toxic. So, keep your Asparagus Fern away from cats, dogs, children, and all other little Pricklettes.
The Lace Fern loves to be misted regularly and will need a new home every year - so keep an eye out for signs of it being rootbound. As a queen, it understands that a little work is required to achieve the ideal shape, so trimming is a must - especially as itās a fast grower (up to 1m). If you notice your Asparagus Fern leaves start to brown give them a little more water.
While some elements of Asparagus Fern care can be tricky, the fact they can tolerate shade and lower temperatures of 13°C and above, means it is easier to find a suitable place to keep them. Here at Prickle, we think this South African beauty looks great in kitchens and bathrooms.
At Prickle, we are always here to hear you! Send us your Asparagus Fern questions @Prickleplantsuk.
