Picturata Prayer Plant
If your style is moodier and more gothic than Scandi neutral, then the Calathea Picturata is the perfect Prickle Plant for you. The Calathea Crimson, as you may have guessed, is called this for its stunningly bright deep pink/red leaves. Their red leaves stand out from the crowd even further with their almost black edges so house guests are bound to comment on this statement piece indoor plant. To top it all off, they are pet-friendly, air-purifying, and best kept in the shade - so they won't mind being placed in a corner in the hallway.
This patterned plant won't grow more than 60cm tall, and it's favourite location will be in pride of place on your coffee table. Calathea Picturata care isn't too difficult either, keep them in temperatures of 18-23°C (minimum 15°C) in a humid room or their leaves may crisp.
They can be fussy about their water so try to use filtered water if possible. If not, leave the water to stand for a few hours before watering them as they are sensitive to chlorine. Your Calathea Crimson plant will curl its leaves when it's thirsty, remember to water them regularly or they will protest. Drooping leaves mean one of two things: they need some dry air or a good mist.
